All students K-12 had the opportunity this week to receive a fun Dr. Seuss themed pencil and to color a Dr. Seuss themed bookmark, thanks to the PTO. It was all in honor of Read Across America Week, in honor of beloved children author and illustrator Dr. Seuss.
FFA week was a big hit last week! Thank you Mr.Joyce, Mr. & Mrs.Corbett, Earl Henderson, and Russel Lantz for all the help and dedication towards the chapter!

The Council School Board will host a community meeting on March 3rd in the Elementary School MPR at 5:30 PM to discuss district financing, an upcoming $250,000 supplemental levy request, and the overall future direction of the school district.
The proposed levy would help support school athletics programs and retain essential teachers’ aides who provide daily classroom support to students.
Community members are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share their thoughts. The meeting is intended to provide transparency regarding the district’s financial situation and to allow for open conversation between residents, board members, and school administration. Dinner will be served!

Eighth grade Family & Consumer Science students at Council Schools have earned their Idaho Safe Food Handling certifications, demonstrating real-world skills that help keep our community healthy. This semester the 8th grade girls, and last semester the 8th grade boys, successfully completed the course and passed the state exam to earn their food handler cards, which are valid for five years.
Through this program, students practiced hands-on skills such as proper handwashing, correct glove use, mixing sanitizer, cleaning food-contact surfaces, calibrating and using thermometers, and keeping food out of the temperature “Danger Zone” and within safe time limits. These lessons are directly tied to Idaho’s food safety regulations (Section 2-102.11 of the Idaho Food Code), so students learn both the science and the law behind safe food handling in school labs, kitchens, and future workplaces.
To earn certification, students completed nine structured lessons and passed a comprehensive exam with a score of at least 80%. Their State of Idaho–approved food safety and sanitation certificate (food handler card) is recognized across the state and remains valid for five years, giving them a meaningful credential before they even enter high school.
This certification strengthens employability for our students in restaurants, school cafeterias, concessions, and other food-related jobs, offering a concrete, resume-ready credential that is especially valuable in rural and small-town communities. When FCS and CTE programs embed food safety into everyday cooking and lab work, students build safe habits they use automatically, which research shows helps them retain skills and reduce risky behaviors over time.

Huge shoutout to CHS Design and Tech students! They designed and produced nearly 50 shirts for our 6th and 7th graders heading to MOSS (McCall Outdoor Science School) this week. Great work supporting our younger Lumberjacks!

This week, we’re highlighting Brody Clagg’s engine project. For the past two months, Brody has been working to rebuild a blown-up Polaris 400. The previous owner told Brody he could keep it if he fixed it, and he’s just about there.
The engine had a failed piston and required several additional replacement parts. Fortunately, the cylinder was still within specification and undamaged, and with some reconditioning, it was able to be reused.
While projects like this may seem straightforward, they can be very challenging. Brody received this engine completely disassembled in a box, which alone can make any rebuild difficult. Along the way, there have been several key teaching moments, and Brody has persevered through all of them. I expect this engine to be running by the end of next week!
