They learned about the fire triangle and how different types of fuel burn at different rates. We also discussed the importance of creating defensible space around our homes and properties to help reduce the potential of wildfire locally.
It was a great opportunity to take what students are learning in the classroom and connect it to a real-world issue that is important here in Adams County. A big thank you to the Idaho Department of Lands for taking the time to work with our students.

Our younger grades had the opportunity to take a walking field trip to the public library on Tuesday! Students learned about proper library etiquette and were each able to check out a book.
How fun to partner with great resources in our community to promote life-long literacy! Thank you to Ms. Milise for hosting us at the library!
If you are interested in supporting our local library, a great way to do that is by joining the Friends of the Library group. The group runs regular fundraisers that support the Libby program, summer reading for kiddos, and library building improvements. Reach out to President Rorrie Burgess if you would like to join the Friends!

Students in International Foods are currently studying Italy and the rich traditions of Italian cuisine. Today, we were fortunate to welcome guest Judy Hull, who shared her knowledge and enthusiasm for making classic Italian foods from scratch.
Judy demonstrated how to prepare homemade noodles, guiding students through the process of mixing, rolling, and shaping pasta. She also taught the class how to make her “special” Italian sauce—a delicious recipe that gave students a taste of the care, flavor, and tradition behind homemade Italian cooking.
This hands-on experience helped students connect what they are learning about Italian culture with practical culinary skills. We are grateful to Judy Hull for visiting our classroom and making our study of Italy such a memorable—and tasty—experience!

As we get closer to the start of the 26-27 school year at CES, I wanted to share the incredible progress CES made during the 25-26 school year towards completing our School-wide Improvement Plan (SWIP). Here is the progress we've made so far:
- In ISAT Mathematics, CES achieved 36% of students at or above proficient, which is an 11% increase from the previous school year and meets our SWIP goal of increasing from 25% to 36% proficient.
- In ISAT English Language Arts, CES achieved 25% of students at or above proficient, which is a 1% increase from the previous school year and is 9% away from meeting our SWIP goal of increasing from 24% to 34% proficient.
- Our 3rd grade class had 52% of students at or above proficient in ISAT Mathematics, which is 1% above the Idaho State average of 51%.
- Our 3rd grade class had 36% of students score advanced in ISAT Mathematics, which is 13% above the Idaho State average of 23%.
- Our 5th grade class had 38% of students at or above proficient in ISAT Mathematics, which is only 4% below the Idaho State average of 42%. We only needed one additional 5th grade student at or above proficient to equal the Idaho State average of 42%.
- CES had experienced negative growth for the previous three consecutive school years in both ISAT Mathematics and ISAT English Language Arts, but experienced positive growth in both ISAT areas during the 25-26 school year. This is the first time this has happened since the 21-22 school year.
- CES reduced our absentee rate from 20% during the 24-25 school year to 12% during the 25-26 school year.
I'm very pleased with the progress we've made so far. We're on pace to complete our SWIP by the deadline established by the Idaho SDE, which is Spring 2028.
I'd like to thank parents and our CES staff for making student learning and school attendance top priorities. I'd also like to thank CSD Superintendent Brian Joyce for working with our CES staff and CES Leadership Team to provide the support and resources we need to increase student learning and success.
I look forward to another incredible school year working with our parents and staff as CES Principal. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or if there's anything I can do to help our students continue to succeed and thrive! Here's to another awesome school year at CES!
See you soon!
Mr. Fontana

While their title may say “secretary,” anyone who spends time in our schools knows they are so much more. From helping students who forgot their homework, to offering a listening ear, a bandage, or even a much-needed hug—they are a steady, caring presence our kids rely on every day.
They are often the first face students see in the morning and the calm, reassuring presence throughout the day. The heart they put into their work creates an environment where students feel safe, supported, and cared for—like having a second mom at school.
As a small token of our appreciation, we gifted them coffee from the school coffee shop—just a small way to say thank you for everything they do for our students and our school community.
Please join us in showing Laura and Katie some well-deserved appreciation!
